Country Killing James Henry Hampton

Country Killing Discovery ID describes this episode as in early fall of 1992, the rural community of
Wantage, New Jersey is rocked by the murder of beloved local Christine Schurman. Police are at a loss for suspects until a tip about another murder committed in Missouri connects them to their killer.

The next morning Hampton returned to Warrenton to retrieve his car, but found that it had already been impounded by the police. Hampton fled the state and was later apprehended in New Jersey where he had been arrested and convicted of another murder. As he was about to be placed into custody Mr. Hampton shot himself in the head.

His victims included Frances Keaton (Missouri) and Christine Schurman (New Jersey).

He opted to be executed by the state of Missouri where he was on death row rather then serve more time in the state of New Jersey. He was executed March 22, 2000. His final words were Take the phone off the hook as he didn't want the governor's office to call with a reprieve.

Wrong Way Home Tim Chaney

Wrong Way Home is described by Discovery ID as when 12-year-old Michelle Winter goes missing without a trace, her family doesn't have a clue as to who could have whisked this pre-teen away. Cops have many leads, but it isn't until evidence is linked to the killer that they get their big break.  

Later that afternoon, Timothy Chaney, Stephanie's stepfather, came into Stephanie's bedroom and told her that he was going around the corner to get his van washed.   Stephanie's mother, Wendy Chaney, was asleep.   At 4:50 p.m., both girls left the house, but walked in opposite directions.   Stephanie turned north to return a videotape, and Michelle walked south to return home.   Michelle then turned east on the street where she lived.   Neighbors saw her around five o'clock walking toward her house carrying a book bag.

At six o'clock, Jackie Nowak called Stephanie's house to tell Michelle to return home.   Stephanie told her that Michelle had left her house around 5:00 p.m. After driving around the neighborhood without success in finding Michelle, Jackie returned home and called the Springfield police.
Timothy Chaney had not yet returned home.   Wendy Chaney asked her next-door neighbors, Richard and Cheri Nelson, if they knew of her husband's whereabouts.   They did not.   Timothy Chaney returned home in the van around 9:00 to 9:30 p.m. Wendy and Timothy Chaney then drove Wendy's car to Jackie Nowak's house to let her know that they would search near the mall.

The next day, a police detective questioned Timothy Chaney and noted that he had tears in his eyes, and that when Chaney's voice broke in mid-sentence, he had to stop to regain his composure.   Later that day, Richard Nelson asked Chaney where he had been the night before.   Chaney told Nelson that he had driven to Linden Lure off of route 60 to go fishing, but fell asleep because he had been drinking beer that afternoon.

Midwestern Malice Samuel A. Freeman

Midwestern Malice Discovery ID describes this show as: a small town, Poplar Bluff is jolted awake when 31 year old Laura Wynn is found dead in her home. And when a double homicide hits a nearby town, people are terrified. Thirteen years later their fears are confirmed when DNA proves the killer lives among them.

Defendant, Samuel A. Freeman and the female victim were regular patrons at the Poplar Bluff VFW club.   On the night of the murder, they had been there for four to five hours.   At some point in the evening, they argued over whose turn it was to use a pool table.   Witnesses noted their raised voices and Defendant's slight agitation.   Later, he attempted to flirt with her, briefly sitting down next to her and offering to buy her a drink, which she rebuffed.   Defendant remembered having no direct physical contact with the victim or, at most, it was limited to his tapping her on the shoulder.

At last call, Defendant left the bar with an empty bottle of Galliano liqueur, which the waitress had given to him as a souvenir.   Fifteen minutes later, the victim left the bar heading home, which was approximately a quarter-mile away.   Her upstairs neighbor heard her arrive shortly thereafter and, going to his window, saw her exit her car and struggle to open her apartment's door.   At this point a man approached from behind her, and they entered her apartment together.   The neighbor did not see the man drive up, and there were no other cars in sight.   The next day, the neighbor was only able to give a very general description of the man
and apparently had not suspected foul play.




The victim's body was found in her apartment the next afternoon by her mother.   She was naked except for one knee-high stocking remaining on her leg.   The other stocking was tied tightly around her neck, and her cause of death was found to be asphyxia.   The autopsy also revealed a hemorrhage behind her ear, which was caused by some type of blow to the head before her death by an instrument with a smooth surface or perhaps a fist.   The examination showed bruises on her thigh and buttocks and injuries to her vagina and near her cervix, likely caused at or just before death and consistent with penetration by a foreign object

Heartless in the Heartland Angela and Eric Mize

Heartless in the Heartland    The tiny town of Boonville, Missouri is devastated when the body of eight-year-old Alyssa Owen is found near a rural country road. When another body turns up six weeks later, investigators soon learn that the senseless brutality of this double homicide. 

Eric Mize was sentenced to  two life terms for the rape and the kidnapping, plus 25 years in prison for the aggravated sodomy, and  another 20 years on probation for aggravated assault. He is also charged with the murder of Felicia L. Hardman.

Angela plead guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life without parole.
